Running Accomplishments:

I'm a 40+ "used to be"...

7 years ago had BAD case of frostbite and nearly lost my feet.  Stopped running (obviously) & gained LOTS of weight.  Started jogging again when local community club needed a coach and found out that exercise helped to increase circulation in my affected areas as well as decreased overall weight which helped to take pressure off my feet.  Still deal with neuropathy and Reynauds--but do not take ANY pain meds to manage the pain.  Gotta' love running!!!

SO, any past accomplishments do not matter....only that I can get ut the door almost every day and run another run.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Currently building base to lead up to traditional Marathon

Goals:

Have not yet decided on race schedule for this year, but am shifting focus from ultras to trying to nail down some shorter speedy races and a tradtional marathon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running for as long as I can & share the knowledge that God has graced me with by continuing to coach as well.

Personal:

Son:  Drew...currently runs for Adam's State!!

Currently Coaching:  Revolution Running

Day Job:  St. Joe's Veteran's Home

Merry Christmas everyone!  It has been TOOOO long since I have blogged, so gonna catch folks up over the last 6 months.  SO, I was working with homeless addicts up until the Illinois marathon when my program lost its funding.  On a whim, I contacted HoneyMilk, a protein recovery drink, and long story short, they have been a Godsend!  They have enabled me to run, train, and coach pretty much full time and I have been enjoying some amazing things and have met some amazing people along the way!

For those that do not know me, I began running last November as a way to deal with empty nesting.  My only son went off to college and after 15 years of not racing, I decided to train for a marathon.  (This was after dealing with a spinal/pelvic sacral fracture from an accident that ended my competitive career a LONG time ago, and neuropathy issues and facing losing my feet some 40 pounds and 7 years ago due to frostbite).

SO, over the last 6 months, I decided that I am probably more of a marathoner/ultra runner person (cuz I am not that fast anymore..)

SO, this week, I am planning to hit 100 miles (I actually hit 100 accidentally over the summer when I decided to run a Monday Marathon and then run an ultra on Saturday…)  BUT, this is the first time I will have run 100 miles in a week that is planned out!  Very excited…

To accomplish 100 miles safely (and sanely??), I am doing 2 a days for most of the week.

Today, my son had 200’s to do on the track, so I took a couple of my other athletes and modified it slightly so that we were running at 5kish pace.  The track was pretty snowy, but lane3/4 was shoveled.

Did 5 x 4 x 200m then at 5kish pace with 1 min jog rest between intervals and 3 min jog rest between sets.

Was quite stiff from the last few days mileage (trying to hit about 14 a day!), so did not know what to expect out of this.  Just wanted to stretch my legs a bit.  My range was from 5:30’s to 6:10’s pace wise, so a bit all over the board until I was fully warmed up.  Ran 8 miles this morning with this workout/warm up and cool down.

Later in the afternoon, grabbed the microspikes and headed to the Lair of the Bear for some climbing.  Trails were really a mess, with little to no flat footing at all.  The microspikes worked wonders and I was able to climb for 2.5 miles before heading back down.  Finished mileage in the lower part of the park and hit another 8 total this afternoon.

YAY! Hey Bonnie. It is great to be here. Can't wait to catch up on everyone's blog! How is training going?

Hi Karen, it is going well ... last two weeks of training (and last *hard* week) before the Houston marathon ;-)

I am going to be doing a 50K for my 50th birthday in October ... do you want to do Stump Jump (in Tennessee by any chance?). I need to hook you up with an Ultra runner I know in Fort Collins -- you two would get along famously I am sure (she was my Mom's hospice social worker).

So glad to see you back!

Bonnie! I would love to met another ultra runner! Iwas in Fort COllins for the Chubby Cheeks 50k the other weekend. I wonder if she was there?

I am TOTALLY looking into the stump jumper! What a fun goal for you birthday. We will have to connect in Houstont he weekend of the trials. I wish I could run in the Sunday event (sigh), but I will be there at the trials for sure!!!!

I looked at the website that 50K looked insane! I did not see her name anywhere - or see her in the pictures, so I don't think she was there. But, I will call her this week (I wanted to check in with her anyway) and see what she is up to in term of training/racing.

Stump Jump is supposed to be a great race ... probably hot, but what the heck I live in Tucson! I was thinking about sewing a tiara onto a hat/headband and running with it along with shirt that says "birthday girl". My friend from Nashville (who is likely going to run it too - she took 2nd masters last year) said that she would wear the same gear too, but only if I ran the 3 day stage race in Chattanooga in June: http://www.rockcreek.com/stagerace.rco

See you in a couple of weeks!!
